A collaborative performance project that aims to bring together four international contemporary artists with a goal to create together series of concert performances in three different venues located in Helsinki. The venues in the project are not treated only as a performance spaces, but physical spaces with individual characters such as room shapes and echoes.
In “music for three spaces” the echo of the room is dealt as a conceptual framework that is studied and implemented to the musical works through new compositions by the project members and by improvisational music making. The performance venues selected to the project were narrowed down by two specific ideas; the performance venues must be part of Helsinki residents cultural life and the venues must differ in physical apparencies. The venues selected to the performance venues are wooden church that served before as a school building, the museum that was built as a villa and an art gallery that operates from the basement of apartment houses.
The project is carried out with kind support by City of Helsinki and Finnish Music Foundation and Musikkfondene.
